Last month a friend of mine (1). **returned** after he (2). **had spent** years as a Peace Corps volunteer in South-East Asia. As they (14).............. **were sitting** by the fire after dinner, and my friend (15)........... **was telling** his guest about some of his exciting adventures, there was a tremendous crash upstairs.
